ECU Defeats UTEP 53-21

East Carolina took an early lead against the University of Texas at El Paso and never looked back in the final regular game of the season.

The Pirates end the regular season with an 8-4 record. Regardless of today's outcome, ECU had already won Conference USA's East Division and will play for the conference title next Saturday.

Brandon Simmons ran for three scores and had a touchdown catch to help East Carolina beat UTEP.

Patrick Pinkney threw for two scores for the Pirates. Although there was nothing to play for in the standings, the Pirates came out with probably their best performance of the season.

East Carolina scored the first 24 points and led 30-7 at halftime against a UTEP team trying to become bowl eligible for the first time in three years. The Miners (5-7, 4-4) got no closer after the break.

Simmons finished with a career-high 111 yards rushing.

Sam WVU hasn't finished 2nd in the Big East yet. A Pitt win over UConn gives them 2nd place.

Sammy, I am VERY knowledgable when it comes to the teams I root for. The PSU football team, the Pitt basketball team, the Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. What else should I care about?

forget it sam you beating a dead horse. That fellow is a legend in his own mind. I like PSU very much myself, but had they not had a winning record this year, it would have been a travesty. I told Dave the reason they were undefeated was because they played no one. Their conference was weeeeeeak, which was a rarety. Would ECU beat PSU this saturday? Heck NO! Would they have in September, perhaps. Dave wants his Nitany Lions to go up against deadfish's Trojans for the NC. Not me. Deadfish has forgotton more about CFB than Dave has ever known. If they were to meet in a bowl not only would dave play second fiddle to fish on the blog, he would in CFB as well. I don't think he could stand the strain. ECU beating lowly UTEP almost drove him to an anyurism, especially after almost 39K folks showed up to watch. He thought that just myself and he would be there.

Hey Wolf! NC State is not the best team for going 4-0 in the state, NC State makes North Carolina look like the most horrible college football state in the south. 2-6 against out of state opponents, and obviously how is ECU a joke when they beat a Virginia Tech team that is in the ACC championship and a West Virginia squad that finished 2nd in the Big East 24-7. Let's see 8-4 pirates vs. 6-6 wolfpuppies. State beat a squad who had at least three of the best players only in overtime in Raleigh, thanks to the refs blowing the call that gave State that extra chance for their miracle to come true. Even UNC and Wake Forest, who I also hate, still finished off better than NC State who may still not go to a bowl, and Duke probably should have. How can State be the best team and ECU a joke when this is going on, you don't know so just shut your big trap wolf and stay out of the discussion.

It's obvious that you are wrong, considering that all you talk about is ECU, Penn State, and Pittsburgh. You are right that experts are wrong, considering they picked Boise to beat the pirates and the pirates were up at one point in the game. I watch Sportscenter every day, and I watch a lot more than just ECU athletics. It sounds like you know very little about the professional sports and college sports other than football and basketball. At least I keep my stuff up to date, even what recruits go where and who signs what contract for what team. I know even more about baseball, and had a cousin who played in the majors thank you very much. I will also say as a NC native, I know more about hockey than about 75 % of citizens up north. (even the college level, where I like Michigan). But beleive what you want to. I know that I know sports a lot more than what you think. I would love for you to ask people that know me about how I know a lot, not just in sports.

Pirate lady, i am going to beg to differ as I was at the game. The only barren sections in the stands were the student pirate club section and the visiting team fan section. Had students been on campus and not gone for the holiday the attendence would have easily topped 40K. A fact that makes dave's blood boil.

T, alot of that 38,000 were student pirate club members. The university has done a really good job this year with getting new students into the Pirate Club (I think I heard that there was somewhere around 5000 this year), but it's still great that so many students showed up the day after Thanksgiving. It says alot for the support that our team has.

Sam, predictions are ALWAYS 50/50. Even the EXPERTS are wrong. It's pretty obvious you don't know much about sports.

dave, I told you that ecu was going to beat up on UTEP. You obviously don't know what you are talking about.
