Holtz Prepares For Meaningless Game In Standings

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- East Carolina has finally wrapped up the
Conference USA division title that eluded the Pirates in the previous two seasons. But coach Skip Holtz said that doesn't mean this week's regular-season finale against UTEP is a meaningless game.

Holtz said the Pirates (7-4, 5-2) have been working to steadily build the program since his arrival before the 2005 season. Last weekend's win against UAB wrapped up the league's East Division title and sent East Carolina to the league championship game on Dec. 6.

But Holtz said Friday's game is still important because the Pirates are trying to build momentum for that game and improve their bowl standing.

In each of the past two years, East Carolina had lost games that would have won the division crown.

Why on earth would your station post a title that is so unsupportive of ECU? That is entirely uncalled for, no matter what is said in the interview, you have already put down the game, and then on the radio, the announcers are saying how few are attending this game today. So, I guess you don't think much of ECU?

again dave...it is a meaningless game in terms of the eastern division race...in terms of winning the football game, it is NOT meaningless...and as i said in the previous post, there are quotes from skip about how this game is NOT meaningless. hooked on phonics didnt work for you.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with dave. There is no such thing as a meaningless game. I do however, disagree with the CUSA game score (championship). I hope that ECU can pull it off but it is very unlikely. I think it will be Houston 45 - ECU 10.

This topic is nothing but an excuse for when ECU loses to UTEP. Early prediction: UTEP 41 ECU 20 Billy Weaver needs to call my name so I can be the one who wins that car.

hey dave...learn how to read. the title says meaningless game IN THE STANDINGS. in the standings of the east division, it does not matter if ecu loses or wins, because they will still go to the c-usa championship game. then the article has quotes from skip about how this game is NOT meaningless. Only in Dave's world...

How in the HECK is the UTEP game considered to be MEANINGLESS?? There is a big Bowl difference between a team with 7 wins over one with 8. Only in Greenville...
