GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina’s Abby Bools was one of three golfers to card a round under 70 when she fired a second round score of 69 to take a one-stroke lead heading into the final 18 holes of the 2008 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. The tournament is being played at the par-71, 5,939-yard Greenville Country Club Golf Course.
Bools, who recorded three birdies on the afternoon and has a 36-hole score of 142 (even par), currently holds a one-shot lead over Georgia State’s Iliska Verwey (75-68=143).
ECU’s Amber Littman is tied for ninth at 150 (75-75), while Ana Maria Puche is tied for 11th (78-73=151). Rounding out the Pirates squad is Colleen Estes (t-48/157) and Amy Otteson (t-54/157). Kristin Billings and Julia Strandberg, who are playing as individuals, are tied for 77th at 163).
Sandra Maier (Georgia State) sits in sole possession of third place with a 36-hole score of 144 (74-70), while Maria Ronderos (Miami, Fla.) is in fourth with a tournament score of 144 (74-72). Belen Buendia (FIU), Jennifer Hirano (Miami, Fla.) and Catherine Madsen (Georgia State) are all tied for fifth with a tournament total of 147). Verwey and Elon’s Fredrique Bruell each posted rounds of 68 which is tied for the fourth-lowest total in the tournaments history.
In the team portion of the event, Georgia State carded the second-lowest round in the tournaments history with a 294 and carries a 13-shot lead (584) into Tuesday’s final round action. ECU is in second at 597 followed by Miami, Fla. (599), Nebraska (608) and Elon (610).
Final round action is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
