Parking and safety concerns are being addressed in Greenville through new parking patterns north of East Carolina University.
The changes are for parking in the Tar River University neighborhood.
On some narrow streets, parking will only be allowed on one side of the street. That allows room for emergency vehicles to pass.
Other streets may become permit parking only, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Also slated for change: the two-hour parking zones in this area, which will become parking by residential permit only.
Renters and homeowners living in homes in the affected areas will be able to purchase up to three parking permits per household. Affected streets will have signs posted designating these special parking zones by mid to late October.
Permits are just $5 each and can be purchased from Public Works with the following documentation:
Owners: Proof of residency that gives address applied for (i.e. current driver’s license, automobile registration, current tax bill, current utility, cable TV or telephone bill, etc.)
Tenants: Lease with all parties showing length of term for the lease, renters or boarders agreements, written verification from college showing official, at-school residency location etc.
Public Works offices are open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and are located at 1500 Beatty Street. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please contact the Engineering Division at 329-4467.
