What A Game! Facts About ECU's Stunning Upset

ECU has now won three games in a row against a ranked BCS team (if you count last year's Hawaii Bowl victory over Boise State). Before ECU's roll, it had been six years since a C-USA school beat a ranked BCS conference team.

ECU's last win against a top 10 team was September 23,1999 when the Pirates beat Miami 27-23. That was also the Pirates' last appearance in the Top 25. No doubt that will change on Monday afternoon.

Prior to this game, ECU had lost seven in a row to West Virginia and they had been 2-17 all-time against the Mountaineers.

This is the first time the Mountaineers were held without a touchdown since 2001.

What are others saying about ECU Football?

Stewart Mandel of SI.com writes "Ladies and gentlemen, we have on our hands a true, legitimate BCS-buster". Mandel's post on fannation.com goes on to state "The Pirates are clearly on a whole other level from some of the more recent mid-major successes."

Vince McMahon was seen on ESPN saying the Pirates were going to lay a "Smackdown" on the Mountaineers. Of course Vince and his wife are both ECU graduates. Fortunately, this one wasn't fixed.

Dave Hickman of Charleston, West Virginia's Gazette-Mail (wvgazette.com) wrote "East Carolina exposed West Virginia's defense in almost every way imaginable and the Mountaineer's offense was alternately ineffective and inept when it did have the ball."

Pat White summed the game up, saying "They beat us up."
