USM's Leading Rusher Out For East Carolina Game

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Southern Miss football coach Larry Fedora has announced that running back Desmond Johnson has been suspended for Saturday's Conference USA showdown against East Carolina.

In a statement from the school, Fedora says Johnson was suspended for a "violation of team policy."

Johnson, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound sophomore, leads the Golden Eagles with 296 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He's also caught a team high 14 passes.

Southern Miss (4-1, 1-0) hosts East Carolina (2-2, 2-0) at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Roberts Stadium.

JollyRoger, you are right on. We need a solid defense and the ability to play consistent, powerful football for 4 full quarters in order to be a winner in CUSA. Dave, I'm a WVU Mountaineer first and an ECU Pirate second.....I don't bash anyone....ya need to cut it out. You are making yourself look stupid!! LOL JoPa would be embarrassed.

Hey Dave, where did you get your degree?...or did you get a degree? I bet your favorite basketball team is Duke or UNC, Pro-football is Cowboys, Pro-Basketball is Lakers and baseball is the Yankees. Am I right??

I support Penn State. Here is a little background info for you. Penn State University is ranked in the top 15 nationally for public universities and is considered a Public Ivy. The enrollment at the Penn State campus is nearly 45,000 with a total enrollment of over 87,000 across its 24 campuses, placing it among the ten largest public universities in the United States. Furthermore, it's college football program has the all time winningest coach in college football. Plus, it is an institution that is well known and respected throghout the country. In closing, PSU is a team that would whip ECU even this year with their true freshman QB.

Jolly Roger the only upset there will be in this game will be the crying EZU fans after their beloved team loses their 3rd in a row.

If ECU can muster some solid defense and play 4 quarters then maybe they might pull off the upset win! GO PIRATES!!

If you look at NCAA stats, ECU is ranked 114 out of 120 teams on total defense. If we don't play better defense, we'll lose more games than we win. I'd like to see the Pirates win, but the offense is under a lot of pressure to score everytime we have the ball. GO PIRATES!!!

That will make it easier for our guys as long as we don't start having injury issues. Jerry, you have a good point. ECU football has had a history of playing well down in Hattiesburg. Dave, you will be surprised when the game comes down to the wire saturday. Southern Miss does not have the defense that UNC or Va Tech has. Richard, If ECU does not belong in the ACC, then Wake Forest, N.C. State, and Boston College then received basically a free pass to get in.

Even without their star running back it will be extremely difficult to put pressure on USM's QB. Their O Line averages 300 lbs and are seasoned veterans. If ECU's offense can play 4 quarters and not make stupid mistakes they will have a chance at winning this game. GO PIRATES!!
