Shane Carden has been named the starting quarterback for East Carolina's matchup against Southern Miss on Saturday.
Carden went 12-18 for 140 yards with a touchdown and an interception in last Saturday's 48-10 loss to South Carolina. Carden replaced Rio Johnson who threw 3 interceptions.
Saturday will mark Carden's first start at the college level. He appeared in one game against Tulane in 2011.
Southern Miss is coming off a bye week. The Golden Eagles lost their season opener to Nebraska.
