Matthew Reckling threw a complete game one-hitter Friday night as the Rice Owls took game one against East Carolina 2-0.
Reckling struck out 10 in the victory, giving up only a single to Jay Cannon in the top of the 5th inning.
Kevin Brandt also went the distance on the mound, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits in a game delayed more than 2 hours due to rain.
J.T. Chargois hit a chopper up the middle in that scored Christian Stringer in the bottom of the first.
Jeremy Rathjen added a solo home run in the 6th inning to double the Owls lead.
Game two of the series is Saturday at 3 p.m. EST.
