GREENVILLE, N.C. - After successfully turning in its first two-a-day of camp a little over 12 hours earlier, East Carolina returned to its single-practice schedule with an enthusiastic two-hour workout in shells Thursday morning on Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex.
Third-year head coach Ruffin McNeill and his staff trimmed a few minutes off the Pirates' team-on-team segment that followed a pair of special teams periods that featured punt block and punt return units.
"Everything went great in what I would I call a normal day with individual, special teams, team and conditioning work," McNeill said. "I think we're right on schedule building it block by block. As is usually the case after about a week of camp, we are starting to get nicked up with bumps and bruises, but guys are stepping up and creating the depth we're striving for."
All four levels of the preseason depth chart on both sides of the ball experienced action against scout squads early during the session before facing each other during a skeleton and team drills, which spanned 22 and 34 plays, respectively.
East Carolina will hold another single workout Friday morning to finish preparations for Saturday's intra-squad scrimmage at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The contest will be closed to the public.
