Old Dominion Leaving CAA For Conference USA

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Old Dominion President John R. Broderick says leaving the Colonial Athletic Association and joining Conference USA "places our athletic programs on a national NCAA Division I stage."

ODU will join Conference USA for all sports in 2013-14, with the exception of football, which will move up to the Football Bowl Series (FBS) level for conference competition in the 2015 season. The Old Dominion football program has sold out every game since the program was reinstated in 2009.

Broderick says "we're very excited to start this chapter in our athletic history."

The Monarchs are the second school to leave the CAA this week. VCU announced Tuesday it's heading to the Atlantic 10 this summer. The league also faces the likelihood of UNC Wilmington and Towson being banned from postseason play in men's basketball next season for NCAA Academic Progress Rate failures.
