A former U.S. Olympic gold medalist and diving coach at East Carolina University has died.

Mark Lenzi died Monday after being hospitalized at Vidant Medical Center for 2 weeks suffering from a series of fainting spells.

In 1992 he won the gold medal in men's springboard at the Barcelona Olympics- something no American man has been able to do since. After he finished his diving career, Lenzi and his wife relocated to Greenville.

Lenzi was diving coach at ECU from 2009-2011 and he was 43-years old.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville.
