GREENVILLE, N.C. - Four games against 2011 NCAA Tournament participants and nine home games at the East Carolina Soccer Stadium highlight the 2012 ECU women’s soccer schedule, revealed by 14th-year coach Rob Donnenwirth Friday.
“I feel we put together a very competitive schedule,” Donnenwirth said. “Obviously Notre Dame and South Carolina jump out in our non-conference slate, but most of the other teams have made it to the NCAA Tournament in the last three years. Our conference schedule seems to get tougher every year. Memphis has proven to be the team to beat, but I believe that we have a very balanced league where every game is tough.”
After an exhibition road at home against Coastal Carolina on Aug. 10, the Pirateswill kick off the 2012 campaign on the road at Campbell on Aug. 17, before playing their first home match against former Colonial Athletic Association foe Old Dominion (Aug. 22). ECU will then hit the road for the first of four games against 2011 NCAA participants when they travel to South Bend, Ind. to square off against 2010 National Champion Notre Dame (Aug. 26).
The Pirates will then play their next three matches at home hosting Davidson (Aug. 31), Charlotte (Sept. 3) and High Point (Sept. 6) before going back on the road against 2011 NCAA participant South Carolina (Sept. 9) and instate rival UNC Wilmington (Sept. 16).
Conference USA action for the Pirates starts at home in 2012 when they play host to UTEP (Sept. 21) and Colorado College (Sept. 23) on Parent’s Weekend. Other home games for ECU in 2012 include: SMU (Oct. 12), Tulsa (Oct. 14) and Marshall (Oct. 25), which has been tabbed as Senior Day.
The conference road opener is set for Sept. 28 against the two-time C-USA Tournament champions, Memphis Tigers. Other league road games consist of UAB (Sept. 30), Houston (Oct. 5), Rice (Oct. 7), 2011 NCAA participant UCF (Oct. 19) and Southern Miss (Oct. 21).
