ECU's Terry Holland Weighs In On Big East Expansion

STATEMENT BY TERRY HOLLAND (on Big East expansion development)

"If there are conference realignments, ECU has controlled the things that are under our control and has positioned itself well with expanded and new facilities as well as proven fan support.

Television dollars also tend to be a primary focus of conference expansions today and the value of various opportunities in that area are more difficult to measure.

However, it is a fact that ECU delivers measurable "eyeballs" in an area that would be the third largest television market in the country - within a 3.5 hour drive from Greenville - from Charlotte in the west to the east coast of NC and into Norfolk/Tidewater, Virginia.

That area is also the home of over 80% of ECU's 130,000 living alumni and well over 90% of the 50,000 fans who pack Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium for football games.

At this time, there have been no discussions with any conference that has been considering expansion but we have consistently stated our interest in altering the geographic profile of our current conference or considering an opening in a conference with a geographic profile that is more consistent with our needs."

After such a horrible lose to Navy why would the Big East take ECU? Secondly, the Big East is no better than CUSA, WAC, MTW, etc it would only be a latteral move. Its only a matter of time before the Big Easy looses its BCS birth.

ECU won't be inducted into the Big East. It will be Central Florida and Villa-nova if anyone. Its all about market share and potential viewers. I think a Texas team might also get an invite. TCU maybe.

Give Big East Commissioners credit, they will run the numbers, they will do the logical and right thing... ECU will be a member of the South Division of the newly expanded Big East Football Conference.

Factoid Hemroid, ECU was 2nd in GPA in CUSA behind Rice last year. I would love to see how many classes you could make it thru at ECU!! lol

ECU ranks 124th in academics PERIOD! That's a big reason why CUSA is where the Pirates will STAY!

Wow. It's hard to believe that any true Pirate fans can find anything but praise to TH. He's the best thing to happen to ECU since Leo Jenkins. He will go down in history as one the best AD's ever. Any chances of getting into any BCS conference are only enhanced by having TH on our side fighting for the Pirates. As far as the comment about academics, you don't know what you're talking about. Do a little research on one of the top 10 medical schools in the country amoung many other honors. What an idiot.

Anyone who criticizes Terry Holland is only showing their ignorance. He is the type of man that this world needs a lot more of. Terry Holland can walk into any group of people and raise the standards and dignity of that gathering, just by being there. He is a MAN among men.
