AUGUSTA, Ga. – East Carolina punter Trent Tignor is one of 85 nominees for the 2013 Ray Guy Award, which identifies the nation’s top collegiate punter, the Augusta Sports Council announced Friday afternoon.
The Hoschton, Ga. native, who was one of 25 punters on the preseason watch list, ranks fourth in Conference USA with a 41.4 average punting 24 times for 993 yards. He has booted five balls for 50-plus yards with a season-long 52-yarder against Old Dominion and landed five punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.
During two seasons as the Pirates’ top punter, Tignor owns a 42.4 career average booting 89 balls for 3,772 yards while placing 19 inside the 20-yard line. Fifteen of his 89 punts have gone for 50 or more yards with a career-long of 65 coming against Navy in 2012.
The 85-player list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists on November 8.
