GREENVILLE, N.C. – Chanel Green has completed a grant-in-aid agreement to attend East Carolina and play basketball for the Pirates beginning with the 2012-13 campaign, according to an announcement Thursday by head coach Heather Macy.
“Chanel will be an integral part of our team over the next several seasons,” Macy said. “She is a fierce competitor and brings that winning tradition to our program. With the addition of Chanel, our point guard rotation has become even stronger.”
A product of Howard D. Woodson High School in Washington, D.C., Green was rated a three-star prospect and the 74th-best point guard in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz. She played a key role in leading the Warriors to their seventh-straight D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association title and, this past season, the school’s second city championship in the last four seasons. Green was also named Fourth-Team All-Met after averaging 7.9 points per game. She scored 21 points against nationally-ranked (No. 10) Riverdale Baptist in early January.
“I knew East Carolina was the place for me when I took my official visit,” Green said. “I look forward to not only improving my game, but making everyone else around me better.”
In Green’s four campaigns with the varsity squad, Woodson went 40-0 in league play and produced a 87-29 overall record. Revered for her defensive tenacity and ability to quickly penetrate the lane, she earned an invitation to the Nike Regional Skills Academy in 2009 and was an All-City selection as a junior.
