ECU Football Player Charged In Wreck

An ECU football player has been charged with reckless driving after troopers say he fell asleep at the wheel and wrecked his truck.

It happened around 12:45 a.m. Saturday. Troopers say 19-year-old Danny Webster, Jr. was traveling north on NC 43 toward Greenville when he went off the road to the right, over-corrected, then ran off the road to the left. His truck struck a ditch and then overturned.

Webster was treated at the scene and released. A female passenger who was also in the truck suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Vidant Medical center. Troopers say the truck was totaled.

Webster is a receiver on the Pirates Football team. ECU head coach Ruffin McNeill was looking to have Webster on the field for Saturday's season opener against Appalchian State.

"I hoped to have Danny ready," McNeill said. "If you go out there and watch him, he's got that big brace on."

Webster initially injured his knee during the UCF game last year.
