AP Source: UAB Fires Basketball Coach Mike Davis

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- A person with familiar with the decision says UAB has fired basketball coach Mike Davis after six seasons.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no announcement has been made. UAB scheduled a news conference Friday afternoon "regarding the men's basketball program."

The Birmingham News first reported the firing.

Davis led the Blazers to the NCAA tournament for the first time during the 2010-11 season and their first Conference USA regular season title, earning the former Indiana coach league coach of the year honors.

UAB fell to 15-16 last season and lost six of its first seven games. Davis posted a 122-73 record and had one year remaining on his $625,000-a-year contract.

Davis did not immediately respond to a text message from AP.

He had only 1 really good year as coach and that was with players recruited by Bobby Knight. The Only reason he had a job was skin color
