Big East Denies Reports Of C-USA Raid

Big East associate commissioner John Paquette denies reports out of Orlando that the Big East is inviting both Memphis and UCF to join their league.

Paquette told cbssports.com on Thursday that the Big East's official stance was the reports by the Orlando TV statio were not true.

WKMG out of Orlando is reporting that the Big East will most likely be extending invitations to both UCF and Memphis by as early as next week.

Cbssports.com had reported earlier in the week that the Big East would likely go after both Memphis and UCF if the Big 12 had fallen apart. That didn't happen when Texas and the other Big 12 schools chose not to join the Pac-10.

The thing about that is that ECU gets just as much coverage in the Raleigh Market as UCF gets in the Orlando Market, if not more.

SPK - It is funny how people talk about the Orlando market. If it is so great than why did ECU have the highest TV ratings of any team in CUSA. If the Orlando market mattered wouldn't they have higher ratings than ECU. My point is that no one is watching UCF football for ECU to be the highest TV rated team in CUSA. However, there are lots of people watching ECU football. The size of the school doesn't matter either. If I remember correctly UCF is a commuter school. A larger version of ITT technical institute in the sense of non-traditional students. There are not a lot of traditional students. Wake Forest has 5000 undergrads. By your logic you are saying that a big school should get into a BCS conference because of its student size, which means that smaller schools like Wake, Vandy, Ole Miss, Duke, and the like should be booted out and UCF should be added. It makes no sense. If the Big East wants to lose their AQ status, then they will go after UCF and Memphis.

ECU needs to go to Division II with the other scrubs.

The Big East is over-crowded, they'll just encourage their basketball schools like Villanova to move their other sports like football up to D-1 instead of bringing in even MORE schools. ECU is just unlucky sometimes. But at least we're not like NC Steak! In a big conference and always stinking it up! And as for Moo U winning a championship with Jimmy V, didn't he cheat, pay his players and get busted by the NCAA?

Outsider Point of View: The Big East is a basketball conference moving forward. They are looking for basketball schools. ECU is not a basketball school. ECU has very little following outside of E. Carolina, and none outside of the state. ECU is a drop in the bucket compared to Orlando's and Memphis's tv markets. ECU people..don't get upset. This is not anything against ECU. It has everything to do with demographics, and money.

ECU belongs in CUSA with all of the other cupcakes.

Wolfpack Red: Honestly man, are you on crack? Last I checked NCSU has not won the NC is round ball since Jimmy V. State had a chance to play in a BCS bowl in 2004 but blew that by choking against Ohio State in the regular season. When was the last time state won an ACC championship in anything other than redneck games? Go back to your corn field and play with your cows! Moo for now!

Hey Wolfpack Red. Thanks for providing your resume but what does that have to do with ECU? Oh by the way, in case you been away for 50 years or so, it's ECU not ECTC moron. I would insult State but there's no point since you didn't go there.
