ECU Players Suspended Following Disruption At Awards Banquet

East Carolina redshirt freshman defensive back Leonard Paulk and junior running back Jonathan Williams have been suspended indefinitely from the football program for a violation of team policy and will miss Saturday's AutoZone Liberty Bowl contest against Arkansas according to an announcement from head coach Skip Holtz Friday afternoon.

"Our priorities to keep and protect our core values will always remain a constant," Holtz said. "The long-term welfare of our university, athletics department, football program and players are our top concern. With that said, it is my hope something positive can come from this."

Paulk has played in all 13 games this season as a reserve cornerback and member of the Pirates' various special teams squads, where he rates as of one of the unit's top tacklers with 10 stops. In all, he has been credited with 15 tackles, which includes seven solo hits.

Williams has rushed for 38 yards on 14 carries in a limited role (six games) after suffering a knee injury in early October.

"At this point, it would be premature to discuss any further action or possible off-season ramifications regarding this team issue," Holtz added. "We'll address this at home after the game, and if there's a status change in the future, we'll publically announce it at the appropriate time."

I don't know where you think I take my freedom of speech for granted. More generalizations. What you don't seem to understand is there is no freedom of speech at They have the right to and quite frequently do refuse to post comments. How your comments keep getting through while breaking numerous rules is what confuses me. I have my theories but I'll be lucky to get this posted as it is.

Williams has to go. Kicked off the team. Kicked out of school. How many incidents is this for him now? No more second chances. I hope Terry Holland and Steve Ballard have seen enough from Williams to know that nothing's going to change with him.

I did reply Barry but WITN did not post it. I guess I need to stay on topic by saying ECU players are delinquents.

OLD GUY: I did NOT attend USC. If I were to be considered intellectually superior-which I am NOT NOR I have claimed to be I would certainly consider a heavy diet of humility. Mr. Barry: The Univ. Of Spoiled children doesn't bother me. A lady that works for the federal government has a daughter that attends ECU and she volunteered the Party U. I simply repeated her words. Take it from there. Some of you might know that Cindy McCain attended USC and Sen JohnMcCain himself referred to USC as the Univ. Of Spoiled Children, no harm done NOR any offense taken... Don't forget Itchingo and his Cheesecake rumblers episode report...

Dave: What is going on with your post-graduate change in plans. deadfish: "Party U" is insulting and is as faulty an over-generalized stereotype as University of Spoiled Children (USC), with all due respect. ECU and USC have different missions and ECU serves its mission well. You demean it by casting about derisive names that fails to take into account myriad other factors. Per an earlier question, I most certainly favor a CFB playoff system while maintaining the other "lesser" bowls as is. These bowls would serve as a quasi one game football version of the NIT of post season basketball, while the top 8 teams vie in a playoff.

A BCS Bowel?? I guess that would be considered the Toilet Bowl?

Deadfish: I sure hope you earned that right to speak your mind in an area outside of American soil. You write like someone who migrated from England to the colonies and can't help but correct us poor old home grown Americans. You should be proud of your choice of a university and those who choose to come to ECU have that same right. If you are so intellectually superior because of attending USC, how did you manage to land in Greenville ?? Everyone has their place in life and who are you to demean others, especially if they are happy with where they are ?? Maybe CJ isn't a skilled public speaker, but he is certainly a good individual -- and he will most certainly make a lot more money enjoying himself than you ever will. Get over youself and quit trying to put down the rest of the world in an attempt to make yourself feel better. Remember, everyone has those same that rights you so have quickly pointed out and OUR opinions are just as valid as yours. Was USC in a BCS bowel this year ??

I earned the freedom pf speech while you and other people take it granted. Regarding your Party U what I have said is true: 1. ECU is #206 academically rated according to US Newsweek rankings. You can take that any way you can EAT IT. 2. Secondly I have seen ECU students kicking a shopping cart without any respect or concern to the vehicle that it dented, HELLO? 3. It is well documented your CJ's public speaking abilities. That is if you want to call it that? 4. Regarding Greenville that is my personal perception of the town whether I'm right or wrong about it. 5. It is also my right as a CFB fan to compare or even ridicule ECU against any school that I care to compare it to. Yes, you're correct that all those topics are not related to the Clancy like cheesecake rumble episode. Your cheesecake rumblers tarnished your Party U more than I have ever drooled over! Please address your itching/itchingo hypersensitivity! Have some cheesecake while you're at it... Thank you

I agree with I hate american football. I dislike the game and I never watch it. I don't understand the big deal, yet from high school to pro people go crazy over it.

The troll remark was not a "compliment". Service to your country does not give you any right to disparage my town, school and team freely without retort. You are here just to say bad things about all three and that makes you a troll of the highest order. You haven't made a post relevant to the article since your first rambling attempt yet you still keep making it through.
