Pirates Win 38-19

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Quarterback Patrick Pinkney ran for two touchdowns to help East Carolina beat Memphis 38-19 Tuesday night.
Dominique Lindsay ran for 139 yards for the Pirates (5-3, 4-1 Conference USA), who warmed up for a game against No. 14 Virginia Tech by rolling up nearly 500 yards on one of the country's worst defenses.
The Tigers, who rank 106th in total defense, fumbled twice to set up early scores for East Carolina.
Will Hudgens completed 33 of 48 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers, who turned the ball over four times.
Pinkney completed 14 of 27 passes for 216 yards, and was picked off once. His only carries were scoring runs of 23 and 3 yards.

I agree that ECU needs to ditch the whole purple approach and change ther colors to black and gold. Purple is such an eyesore color.

Oh, and to answer someone's question, ECU fans do not think that our team is a national powerhouse..at least not the true fans. True fans realize that we have a lot of work to do, but that doesn't mean we can't try our best to contend with nationally ranked teams. The so called fans that say we are a national powerhouse are the same ones talking about BCS at the start of every season, just to jump off the wagon once we lose a few games. There are some fans that make it bad for the rest of us fans b/c they are the reason you anti-ECU folks come here week after week to post in the first place. Most fans here, like myself, can engage in friendly banter with other people, but if you come here acting like a jerk, you're going to get it back in return. And anti-ECU people always say that we are the ones to start it, but it seems to me that the anti-ECU people are the first ones posting on every ECU article. If you don't like us, why waste your time? Stop picking fights, go support your team.

Oh, Lord, I know someone didn't come up here talking about the Gators. The Gators are not what they were compared to last year. How they are even #1 over Alabama on the AP is a mystery to me. If Alabama keeps going the way they are, they will go to the national championship this year.

Robert, Skip has dispelled the myth that the team will be wearing black uniforms. i wish they would though, I think black uniforms would look nice. He says it's because of economic cutbacks on campus, but it's not like they would need a full uniform. They could wear the purple pants they have now with black jersies. I'm sure if they'd approached the Pirate Club with this idea, the money would have been raised in no time.

Coach M, As I warned you, Virginia Tech should have been concentrating on the Carolina Tarheels. The Tarheels have made our state proud this morning and deservingly so. Hokie, also had the same impression as you, that Virginia Tech has clear sailing thoughout the rest of their schedule. Since you call yourself a coach, we both know that the Hokies will come into Greenville real angry next Thursday evening. The Pirates will need to play flawless football to stay in the game but I do believe it will come down to the fourth quarter. The stadium is going to be packed and we learned alot about Tech last night. I thought the quarterback from Tech made some poor decisions last night. Tech also likes to play at home a lot better where they have fireworks and turkey legs to consume. Beamer ball bombed out last night even with the help of some home cooking if you know what I mean. I salute the Tarheels for last nights effort. I hope that ECU is as prepared to play considering our adversary.

I say ECU beats Va Tech next week. This will the loudest and rowdiest crowd the Hokies have face all year. The Pirates are bringing out the all black uniforms trimed in purple and gold next week. Looks great!!

Be careful there coach M. Your florida state team is not looking too hot right now. Kind of hard to bash us when your team is at the bottom of the ACC, along with UNC. But you did beat them, so kudos to FSU for that, I loved every minute of your comeback against them.

The nightmare will come true when the "thugs" from Blacksburg come calling. I LOVE felons.

To all the ECU bashers out there... get a life! Seriously, why do you care whether or not the Pirates win or lose if you're not a fan. You should be more concerned about your repsected teams. As far as the BCS thing goes, Rome was not built in a day and neither will ECU's asperations to achieve that but, it will happen one day. Ten years ago know one had heard of Boise State or Utah and look what they have achieved, not to mention they are from non-bcs conferences. You guys should take a look at the bcs teams the Pirates have beaten. The list includes some impressive wins over Stanford, Texas Tech, SC (sec), VT, and the list goes on. I almost forgot in 2000 maybe 01 the Pirates took the mighty Alabama into over-time before losing by 1 pt. So..what was that about ECU stinking? Go Pirates!

Coach M, The Hokies had better concentrate on the Carolina Tarheels instead of the Pirates. The Tar heels will be playing Virginia Tech tonight with a bone to pick. They literally gave their game away against Florida State. I may be crazy but there is something in the air today that says upset in the ACC tonight. The Tarheels are playing for their season and will be extremely motivated tonight. The truth will come out in tomorrows paper. Win or lose, the Tarheels will give them a solid game. The Hokies will be highly favored but football is a strange game to predict. Just don't count your chickens before they hatch. You will have ECU to hassel with next Thursay evening in Greenville. The Hokies always play better at home, so let's just see how this plays out. Best of luck to your team.
