GREENVILLE, N.C. – After a 30-minute lightning delay, East Carolina Head Coach Skip Holtz put the finishing touches on his team's final preparation effort for Saturday's scrimmage with a light two-hour practice session in shorts and helmets Friday afternoon inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex.
Unlike the previous two sessions on Wednesday and Thursday that saw the Pirates spend the majority of practice on extended team-on-team work, ECU keyed on special teams play for over half of the workout Friday. After turning in separate team offense and defense reps, East Carolina closed with a 20-minute session of seven-on-seven skeleton drills before ending practice with more field goal work.
Although it was a polish day, I thought we had another good effort out here and accomplished what we needed to,” Holtz said. “We’ll make this scrimmage as real as we can with full game conditions, down and distance, chains and different situations. This will give us a chance to evaluate the offense and defense, and provide a good look at the kicking game.
Right now there’s still a lot of personnel competition out there as we’ve got people fighting for many backup jobs and special teams positions. I look forward to seeing how we respond to both the challenges and opportunities tomorrow.”
