Pirates Ready For Much More In 2009

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- East Carolina isn't shy about wanting a shot at crashing the BCS.

The Pirates beat big-name opponents and won its first conference
championship in more than three decades last season.

ECU returns an experienced group from last year's 9-5 squad, with quarterback Patrick Pinkney back to lead the offense after earning a sixth year from the NCAA. The Pirates also have a pair of all-Conference USA performers on defense in lineman C.J. Wilson and
safety Van Eskridge.

Coach Skip Holtz said his players have plenty of reason for optimism, but also says last year's success doesn't mean anything for this year's group once the regular season begins against Appalachian State on Sept. 5.
