HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- UNLV's Mike Hamrick is returning to his
alma mater as Marshall University's new athletic director.
Marshall officials announced the 52-year-old Hamrick's selection Monday. He replaces Bob Marcum, who retired after seven years.
Hamrick was a starting linebacker for the Thundering Herd in 1978 and 1979. After graduating, he received a master's degree from Ohio University in 1981.
Hamrick spent six years as the AD at UNLV. Before that, he was the AD at East Carolina and Arkansas-Little Rock.
Hamrick's UNLV contract was set to expire next year. His move to Marshall follows the June 30 retirement of UNLV chancellor Jim Rogers and a July 11 vote by the Nevada Board of Regents to demote UNLV president David Ashley to the faculty.
