Eastern Carolina Ball Players Drafted By MLB Teams

It was a big day for four college baseball players in eastern Carolina.

Pirate Junior, Devon Harris went in the 8th round of the draft to the Baltimore Orioles.

The 11th round came and went and along with senior Ryan Wood, who was draftedby the Kansas City Royals.

Chris Heston was tapped by the San Francisco Giants in the 12th round.

First Baseman Stephen Batts was drafted by the Phillies in the 19th round with the 587th overall pick.

UNC Tarheel and New Bern native Adam Warren was also drafted, getting his chance at the big leagues as a New York Yankee. He was selected as the 135th pick overall in the 4th round.

Also selected in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft were ECU signees Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels, Round 1, Pick No. 25 overall), Nick McBride (Texas Rangers, Round 5, Pick No. 154 overall), Walker Gourley (Pittsburgh Pirates, Round 13, Pick No. 385 overall) and John Wooten (San Diego Padres, Round 20, Pick No. 594 overall).

The 2009 MBL Draft will continue Thursday morning starting at 11:30 a.m. (EDT) with round 31 and will continue until all 50 rounds are completed.

    JDLadd, Sure sounds like a better gig than trying to put down someone's ability while sitting at the computer.. Beside's, I happen to like AA baseball, good entertainment and some athletes that put on a good game.

    I just hope these guys can keep their heads on straight,since their lives are about to drastically change.There have been several "Athletes Gone Bad" lately.Like my daddy used to say..time will tell.

    It should also be noted that Pirate signee Mike Trout went as the 25th overall pick (1st round). Haven't heard if he'll pursue the Bigs or come to Greenville, I'm guessing the former. Good luck to him either way! Just shows the Pirates are recruiting the best!
