Wolfpack's Amerson Ready To Build On Big Season

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina State cornerback David Amerson plans to build on a sophomore season that saw him set an Atlantic Coast Conference record for interceptions.

Amerson led the country with 13 picks, tied for second-most in bowl subdivision history. He's spending the summer getting stronger and improving his footwork, knowing he'll face higher expectations as the guy likely charged with shutting down the opponent's top receiver each week.

Amerson says he won't back down from high expectations, saying it motivates him.

He went from being a high school safety in Greensboro to starting the last nine games of his true freshman season at cornerback for N.C. State. Last year, he had four two-interception games and returned two for touchdowns.

Amerson was a second-team all-American pick by The Associated Press.
