Wolfpack Shuts Out Tar Heels 13-0

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Mike Glennon threw a touchdown pass to help North Carolina State beat North Carolina 13-0 on Saturday, earning its fifth straight win against its nearby rival.

James Washington ran for 110 yards for N.C. State (5-4, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), which again saved its best for the Tar Heels in a surprisingly one-sided -- and often ugly -- contest. The Wolfpack ranked in the bottom half of the league's defensive statistics, but overwhelmed the Tar Heels (6-4, 2-4) and shut down freshman runner Giovani Bernard. N.C. State also knocked starting quarterback Bryn Renner from the game by the end of the third quarter.

It was N.C. State's first shutout in the series in more than five decades.

With that type of defense, Glennon and the offense didn't need a big day. Glennon threw an interception on the first drive, but N.C. State protected the ball the rest of the day.

The all time series does not matter. It was skewed. While N.C. State's and even ECU's talent were off fighting for our freedom, UNC's talent didn't go off to war, making it easier for UNC to get those wins. That was before the ACC ever came. This day in time, N.C. State is the only school worth pulling for. Both ECU and UNC are on the level with Dook and Wake Forest which is not as high as State's level.

WOW!! Great win! One touchdown and two field goals! Great skills Wolf pukes!!!! You know it's intersting. In every footbal game I've watched where there was a flag on a play there is always a replay. Funny, when the TARHEELS scored but got flagged for holding there was no replay. WOW!!! All this yap about playes being paid at UNC...why isn't there an investigation on Refs being on the NCSU payroll!!! Seems like they are. Or are they just in Coach O'Cryings back pocket?

You talk about only a touchdown and 2 field goals being scored, but what did Carolina score? Nothing. Even if the touchdown they called back had counted, they still would have only scored one touchdown, which is pitiful for a 'dark horse BCS contender'.

Talk about a whiner! Talk about a poor sport! Yup, it was a conspiracy that caused the holes to get blanked. You heel fans are full of excuses.

I knew all along KurLIEner had no chance at beating State. Those holes are not all that good as they claim to be. I'll admit my Wolfpack has had a down season but the Wolfpack owns the Tarholes.

State owns KurLIEner. KurLIEner had most of their wins before I was even born. Up to 15 years ago, that's all that matters. You KurLIEner people try to claim you all are the best from something that started a century ago. Enjoy getting beat by Dook LOL.

N.C. State will beat UNC for the next 40 years and will end up surpassing UNC's history of cheating to currently lead the series.

UNC is not even the best school in basketball. Dook owns KurLIEner. State owns KurLIEner in football (look at TOB's record against KurLIEner). I'll hand you guys basketball, but FOOTBALL is the real deal and you know it, and you also know State OWNS KurLIEner.

UNC still leads all NC schools in all sports all time, still the flagship school in the state...PERIOD
  • by Anonymous on Nov 6, 2011 at 06:36 AM
Its OK UNC still leads NCSU all time in ALL sports, period. NCSU was supposed to have such a good team this year but UNC is having a better year than NCSU.

And many of those wins cam pre-ACC, in which the majority of the games were played in Chapel Hill, with UNC playing against a club team. Keep living in the 20's, and I'll take the wins now.
