RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina State is ready for its first game under head coach Mark Gottfried.
The Wolfpack faces UNC-Asheville on Friday night to open the first season under Gottfried, who replaced Sidney Lowe after five seasons in which the program failed to make the NCAA tournament. Gottfried says he's excited to get back on the sideline after spending the past two years as a TV analyst.
Gottfried has tried to improve the team's toughness and prepare it for a faster pace of play. N.C. State scored 102 points in Monday's exhibition win against Flagler.
Junior Scott Wood says the players have embraced the changes, while transfer Alex Johnson said Gottfried makes his players feel comfortable.
