UVa Rolls Past Wake 13-1 At ACC Tourney

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Stephen Proscia finished a single short of the cycle and two Virginia pitchers combined on a two-hitter to lead the Cavaliers past Wake Forest 13-1 on Wednesday in their Atlantic Coast Conference tournament opener.

Proscia tripled in the third inning, doubled in the fifth and led off the sixth with a solo homer for top-seeded Virginia (46-9). The Cavaliers had nine extra-base hits, scored in every inning they batted but the fourth and cruised in a game shortened by the 10-run mercy rule.

Tyler Wilson struck out 12 in 6 1-3 innings for Virginia before Cody Winiarski retired the only two hitters he faced in the seventh.

Mac Williamson hit a solo homer in the second for the eighth-seeded Demon Deacons (25-29), who managed only four baserunners.
