UNC WR Ineligible For Bowl, Seeks Reinstatement

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina has declared top receiver Dwight Jones ineligible for the Independence Bowl after the senior allowed his name and photo to be used on a flyer promoting a party at a club in his hometown.

The school has applied to the NCAA for reinstatement after the secondary violation. In a statement, Jones apologized for creating a distraction and said he has canceled the party being given by a family member. The school's compliance office has sent a cease-and-desist letter to the party promoters.

The flier surfaced online Monday and advertised a New Year's Eve party for Jones' birthday in Burlington, about 30 miles from campus.

Jones had 79 catches for 1,119 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Tar Heels, who play Missouri in Monday's Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La.

It is obvious by your pathetic grammar and written communication skills that you attended neither UNC-CHeat or any college whatsoever. So, why are you here defending a school that would despise you for your lack of sophistication should you find your way on campus in Chapel Hill? You'd stand out In CHeater Hill like a sore thumb, but you don't seem to possess the self-awareness to even realize this. By the way, you further emphasize your lack of education and abilty to express yourself with your over-use of punctuation... (to quote you)... "just sayn;)". Cornell 1986, Biology, for what it's worth. Thank you for proving my point, by the way.

Some one help explain to me, you can get arrested, and still play on Saturdays in the NCAA, but get kicked out of a bowl game for this?

Whistling past the graveyard are you, Chris? Admit it, UNC-CHeat is dirty. The UNC-CHeaters have fooled band-wagoners like you for decades. UNC-CH cheats and always has. Only the Wal-heels and alum. still believe the myth that they do things the right way, "the Carolina way". Which are you? Graduate or wanna-be baby blue "fan" that the graduates laugh at? Huh? I'm betting that you are a wanna-be that the UNC_CHeats look down upon. UNC-CHeat, the very name of this "school", and all they pretend to be is forever disgraced. Chris... tick-tock, the NCAA is on your clock... ps: Wal-Mart has good sales on girly blue apparel.

The DUMBEST comment I have ever read. How does some kid getting his name put on a party flyer mean that UNC is cheating. How would that help them have a better athletic program?? It's okay if you hate the Tar Heels, but at least have some facts or an intelligent point of view. When you spew venom out of ignorance, it makes you look like a fool and does not advance your point. Where in the world did you go to college??? You should have learned the basics of reasoning in kindergarten!!! No wonder you label yourself anonymous.

Hi, WOW. I went to college at Cornell. You? Does your hyperbolic over-use of exclamation points and question marks help advance your point, or make you look like a drama queen? No wonder you label yourself WOW. Now, to answer your question (which should be self-obvious for anyone with a modicum of intelligence, much less a college degree): Mr. Jones posting this flyer on his Facebook page and endorsing this party is clear evidence, despite ALL the UNC-CHeat scandle this year, that the players still are either a. ignoring their athletic compliance departments education about forbidden policy or b. the compliance department continues to fail to educate the players adequately. Take your pick. This wasn't too hard to understand, now was it, WOW?

this has nothing to do with cheating and your comment has nothing to do with reality, as usual

Anonymous, you sure you can read, or do you understand what you read? If they hadn't got caught cheating, they wouldn't be policing themselves so tight. It has everything to do with cheating. Get off your high horse and admit, your university are cheaters and the sooner you do that, then the sooner you will be able to sleep at night. Mom!!! More meatloaf!
