UNC Baseball Claims 5-2 Win At UNC Greensboro

No. 4 North Carolina moved to 14-2 on the year with a 5-1 road win at UNC Greensboro (10-6) Tuesday as the Tar Heels won their sixth straight. Freshman Benton Moss improved to 2-0 as he notched the victory by tossing 5.2 scoreless innings.

Freshman Benton Moss got the start for the Tar Heels and went 5.2 innings allowing just four hits and striking out five.

The top of the order fueled the Tar Heels as Chaz Frank and Tommy Coyle combined for four of UNC's five runs in the game. Frank finished the day 1-for-3 with a triple but reached with a pair of walks. Coyle reached three times on the day scoring runs in the first and seventh.

Carolina struck in the very first inning for the sixth time this season and made it a perfect 6-0 when doing so as the Tar Heels claimed the 5-1 win.

The Tar Heels took advantage of a Spartan error in the first as Coyle came around to score after a one-out single.

Coyle made it 2-0 Tar Heels with a RBI ground out in the third after Frank opened the inning with a triple into the right center field gap.
Four straight walks by the Tar Heels opened the fifth inning before Frank eventually scored on a balk after swiping his second base of the year. Carolina was unable to add on any runs in the fifth but it was all the margin that starter Benton Moss needed.

Colin Moran extended his team lead in RBI when he doubled home Coyle in the seventh before moving to third on a deep fly ball from Jacob Stallings. A wild pitch would allow Moran to score from third to up Carolina's lead to 5-0.

R.C. Orlan came on to close out the Spartan half of sixth before surrendering his first run of the year when UNCG's Lloyd Enzor doubled in the gap to plate a run.

Freshman Chris McCue would come on to pick up the final out of the inning before tossing a 1-2-3 ninth to keep the Tar Heel lead at 5-1. McCue, Tate Parrish and Cody Penny combined on a scoreless ninth to give Carolina its sixth straight win.

By not allowing a run, Moss extended his scoreless streak to 14 innings after tossing 8.1 shutout frames at Elon a week ago.
Carolina will return to the friendly confines of Boshamer Stadium Wednesday when the Tar Heels welcome in Gardner-Webb for a 3 p.m. first pitch. Freshman right-hander Luis Paula will get the start for the Tar Heels on Wednesday.
