Tar Heels Dismiss Starting LB Ebele Okakpu

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina has dismissed starting linebacker Ebele Okakpu from the team.

Interim coach Everett Withers says the senior was dismissed for "conduct detrimental to the team," though he wouldn't elaborate further during his weekly news conference Monday. Okakpu started five games this year and had 14 tackles. Withers says Okakpu will remain on scholarship and has a chance to graduate this spring.

Sophomore Darius Lipford is listed atop the depth chart in Okakpu's place for the Tar Heels (5-2, 1-2), who travel to eighth-ranked Clemson this weekend. Withers says the Tar Heels might use multiple players to replace Okakpu, saying the team has built depth at the position.

Word is, he didn't turn his loaner car back in this past weekend. Give them cars, books, tutors doing their homework and still don't know how to act.

If memory serves me correctly, JW sat out the better part of two seasons for his numerous transgressions so your analogy is faulty. However, point well taken in that ECU gave him way too many chances.

My son goes to UNC and alot of his friends go to ECU. One thing i can tell you is there is a big difference in how hard the classes are. ECU students dont need tutors the classes are easier.

I am not too familiar with this player. He must have done something really, really, really, bad and/or not be very good to get kicked off this team.

He was a good player, that why he was a starter but the coach is trying to show that if you brake rules on his team no matter how good you are you will be gone.My hats off to him. Go heels!

It's nice to see that new attitude in Chapel Hill. Hopefully, they will strongly consider keeping Everett as coach instead of looking for another pretty face.
