Tar Heels, Terrapins Meet In Season Finale

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina and Maryland meet Saturday in the final game of the season for both teams.

The Tar Heels (7-4, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) are banned from a bowl due to NCAA sanctions connected to violations for improper benefits and academic misconduct. The Terrapins (4-7, 2-5) have lost five straight after an injury-plagued second half of the season, which ended with the news of the school's move from the ACC to the Big Ten in 2014.

UNC's seniors could've transferred without penalty after the NCAA sanctions, but they've returned to play a big role in the transition to new coach Larry Fedora. Fedora called their impact "tremendous" and said their decision to return gave confidence to the rest of the players in the program.
