DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Duke says baseball coach Sean McNally has resigned after seven seasons at his alma mater.
The school announced his decision Wednesday.
McNally was 192-198-1 at Duke and went just 53-145-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Blue Devils were 21-34 this season, went 9-21 in league play and missed the eight-team conference tournament for the sixth time in seven years.
The former All-ACC player says the effort to be a winning program in the league has been "exhausting" and "the results have been disappointing."
Duke appointed assistant Edwin Thompson as the interim coach and says a national search will begin immediately for McNally's permanent replacement.
