Raleigh's RBC Center On Track For New Name

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The RBC Center is on track to get a new name.

Officials said Thursday that Centennial Authority -- the arena's owner and developer -- has granted preliminary approval to PNC Financial Services Group Inc. to rename the venue PNC Arena.

The change is expected to take effect in March. That's when Pittsburgh-based PNC expects to complete its $3.45 billion purchase of Raleigh-based RBC Bank.

The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approval, and includes the building's naming rights.

The 19,000-seat arena is home to the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes and North Carolina State's men's basketball team.
