RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Nothing has been consistent this season about North Carolina State.
The Wolfpack (6-5, 3-4 ACC) have followed each of their impressive wins with ugly losses. That's a trend that has to stop this week against perennial late-season nemesis Maryland if N.C. State is to claim the one victory it need to qualify for a bowl.
N.C. State's postseason hopes were declared all but over before last week's 37-13 rout of then-No. 7 Clemson gave the Wolfpack another chance.
Coach Tom O'Brien said Monday that his players "decided they were going to win the football game." Now he needs them to do the same thing against the struggling Terrapins (2-9, 1-6).
O'Brien says "we're in a playoff right now -- either you win or you go home."
