NC State Grants Release For QB Russell Wilson

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina State has granted a release for quarterback Russell Wilson, who is playing minor-league baseball this summer.

In a statement Friday, coach Tom O'Brien says the release would allow Wilson to play football elsewhere if he chooses to return to the sport. Wilson says "it has become apparent" that the program needs to move forward without speculation of whether he'll return to the sport.

Wilson also says he hasn't "closed the door" on the possibility of using his final season of football eligibility.

O'Brien had said during spring drills that the Wolfpack planned to move forward with Mike Glennon at quarterback.
