NC State's Byrd Out For Remainder Of Season

Raleigh, NC - NC State head football coach Dave Doeren has announced that redshirt senior safety Jarvis Byrd has a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. Byrd was injured during the Wolfpack’s game at Wake Forest on October 5.

"Jarvis is a true champion,” said Doeren. “This team and staff love him as a brother and respect him as a leader. It is so unfortunate that a player like Jarvis, who has been through two other ACL surgeries, has to endure another. I know that he will have a tremendous attitude and will use all the support available to him to have a healthy recovery.”

Byrd, a member of the team’s Leadership Council, started the first five games this season at safety after playing cornerback in previous campaigns. He has played 302 snaps in 2013, tallying 17 tackles, and served as a team captain for the Richmond game.

The Pahokee, Fla,. native earned a starting job as a true freshman in 2009 before suffering his first torn ACL in a win against North Carolina. He missed all of the 2010 season as he rehabbed from the injury and then suffered a second torn ACL during 2011 summer workouts and missed that entire season as well.

In 2012, Byrd saw action in just four games as he was hampered by other injuries.
