RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State has been selected as one of 13 host sites for the preliminary rounds of the 2014 Men’s Basketball Championship, the NCAA announced Monday.
The second- and third-round games will be played at PNC Arena, March 21-23, 2014.
“The PNC Arena is a magnificent basketball facility,” said NC State director of athletics Deborah A. Yow. “Soon the rest of the nation will know that, as well, when they see the regionals here in Raleigh.”
This will be the 15th time NC State has hosted NCAA Tournament games and the first time since 2009.
NC State’s history with hosting the Big Dance dates back to 1951 when the Wolfpack hosted and played in three tournament games at Reynolds Coliseum.
Raleigh also played a key role in the Pack’s run to its first national championship in 1974, when NC State won two games in the Eastern Regional hosted at Reynolds over Providence and Pittsburgh en route to Final Four victories over UCLA and Marquette.
