Local Prospects Picked Up By NFL Teams

Former ECU players Willie Smith and Jonathan Williams agree to free agent deals along with former UNC and Southwest Onslow star Kendric Burney.

Willie Smith was picked up by the Washington Redskins. Smith is a 6'5, 305 lbs offensive tackle from ECU and was a two year starter for the Pirates. This past year Smith was a 1st Team Conference USA performer.

Jonathan Williams, who played his high school football at J.H. Rose in Greenville, will head to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Former UNC defensive back Kendric Burney will stay close to home with the Carolina Panthers. Burney is considered to be one of the most attractive non-drafted free agents on the market.

Official announcements by NFL teams on non-drafted free agents are expected sometime later on Tuesday.

Are you really that clueless about professional football? Ever heard of Tony Romo, Kurt Warner, Jake Delhomme, Priest Holmes, Warren Moon, Wes Welker, Antonio Gates, Jeff Garcia, Willie Parker, Rod Smith, Jeff Saturday...should I go on. Undrafted free agents make it all the time. And many become superstars in the NFL.

Best of luck with the Skins Willie. If Kendrick Burney makes the 53 man roster for the Panthers, then I'll have to start pulling for him. I just hope he is not as selfish and egotistical as Julius Peppers.

Well this is good for Jon Williams. Just do one thing, don't hang around Cedric Benson or Pacman Jones in your spare time. They will get you in trouble. At least you are out of Greenville where you can stay away from trouble there. Work hard, stay healthy, stay out of trouble, and make the pirate nation proud. Best of luck!
