Gottfried Putting His Touches On NC State Program

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- New North Carolina State coach Mark Gottfried says he's working to change his players' mentality and build new habits for a team that hasn't been to the NCAA tournament in five years.

Gottfried took over in April after Sidney Lowe resigned following five struggle-filled seasons. N.C. State managed just a 25-55 record in Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season play under Lowe and never finished higher than ninth in the league.

Gottfried says changing the program's fortunes will be a long process, though he says the players "want to believe that we can win." He also didn't sound deterred about going up against ACC rivals Duke and North Carolina in recruiting, saying he'll go hard after any player he wants regardless of who N.C. State is facing.

It wont be long before the Wolfpack ends up at the same position as they were at the end of the 1983 season. N.C. State will be a major basketball powerhouse vefore you know it.

you know nothing at all sir, before dukes rise to power it was NCSU and UNC and then, the rest of the ACC...73-74 NCSU went UNDEFEATED, and were NC winners in 74.

Look at the rocord books, NCSU has the most ACC championships, turny and regular season behind Duke and UNC, also the most NC at 2 over anyone else in the ACC, the only other NC goes to Maryland who has 1. NCSU was a POWERHOUSE in the ACC for almost 40 years!

Does this mean NCSU will be just as bad if not worse than Bama basketball? If State wants a winning program then 1st and foremost get rid of Yow and winning will follow!
