Former UNC Coach Davis Hoping To Coach Again

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Former North Carolina football coach Butch Davis wants to be a head coach again.

UNC fired Davis last July amid a series of embarrassing revelations during an NCAA investigation into improper benefits and academic misconduct within his football program. The school said there was too much damage for him to stay even though he wasn't linked to a violation, and now he's working as a consultant with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers hoping to become a head coach again.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Davis says he hopes the UNC scandal "will not define me as a man nor as a coach."

Former Tar Heels athletic director Dick Baddour says he has called schools supporting Davis for jobs and is willing to do it again.
