No. 11 Virginia Tech Beats ECU 17-10

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Josh Oglesby ran for the go-ahead 10-yard score with 7:30 left, helping No. 11 Virginia Tech beat East Carolina 17-10 on Saturday to give coach Frank Beamer his 200th win at the school.

David Wilson ran for 138 yards to lead the Hokies (2-0) and quarterback Logan Thomas struggled in his second career start while the Hokies also committed 12 penalties and committed two turnovers, but their defense completely shut down the Pirates' high-powered passing attack and held East Carolina (0-2) to 112 total yards.

That included minus-15 yards rushing, second fewest in ECU history.

Michael Dobson ran for a 2-yard touchdown for the Pirates. But in an unusual twist, it was their defense -- among the nation's worst last year -- that kept East Carolina in it until late.

Previous Story:

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP)-- East Carolina follows its opening loss to South Carolina by hosting No. 11 Virginia Tech on Saturday. It's part of yet another tough non-conference schedule for the Pirates.

The Pirates (0-1) upset the Hokies (1-0) three years ago in Charlotte. The teams are meeting for the fifth straight season.

The game will attract a rowdy home crowd for the Pirates, though coach Ruffin McNeill wants his players focused on "doing their jobs" and not trying to do too much.

The Hokies have the chance to give coach Frank Beamer his 200th victory in 25 years at the school. They're coming off an easy win against Championship Subdivision power Appalachian State, marking a successful debut for Logan Thomas as starting quarterback.

I see that Dave's reputation preceeds him. Many have now caught onto his desperate act for attention. Like the frail, emotional child that he maturally is, he'll seek attention, be it positive or negative, in order to continally feed his wounded ego.

Maybe you two could form a support group! Call it AA... Acrimonious Anonymous. You and Dave could sit together, recite the AA 12-steps, sip coffee, and blame everyone and anywhere else for your own personal failings but yourselves. This would sure be easier than taking personal responsibility and doing something for yourself about your sad state of affairs in life; ain't that right "Supporter" and Dave? I give credit to the good folks at the real AA, at least they take responsibility for their own well-being, unlike you two pitiful characters!

Dave has his very first friend! You two should get together! Maybe even follow LOL!'s advice and start a support group with just the two of you. As the old saying goes "there is somebody for everybody"... I smell romance in the air. Just PLEASE do us all a favor and DO NOT procreate!!! There is already enough misery in the world. Dave and Dave's Supporter... the only thing sadder would be if "Supporter" were Dave himself. Would anybody really put this past him? I wouldn't! Afterall, he has alraedy created the pseudonym "JDLadd" and probably other aliases. So sad, but SOOO funny!!!

Our offense would do a lot better if we had a QB that would run the ball instead of taking a 15 yard sack when there is a hole you could drive a truck in . That was something that helped ECU out a lot when Garrard was here. You can be scared to take a hit so you can get some positive yards. On a positive note GREAT SHOWING by the Defense.

I hate to say this BUT this program continues to slip. VTech could have been beaten Saturday by just about anybody! They played awful, their QB play was terrible, they were there to be had! ECU continued to throw 1 yard pass after 1 yard pass! HELLO!!! D. Harris is in NFL , so is CJ2k! bottomline thePirates do not have that speedster to pull their buts out of the fire! ECU is lucky to be in C-usa they can win those games but not much else! Do you folks remember beating Miami,Syracuse with Mcnabb?, Stanford and so on. I DO! but the way recruiting has slipped they can't do it now! Its sad, we have a great stadium, great facilities but no real program! sure we can beat UABs and Memphis type teams but nothing else if this team qualifies for a bowl they will get their clock cleaned by an 8th place SEC,ACC,Big 10 or Big 12 school easily! There needs to be some serious changes to ECU football! Personally I think they made a terrible choice in bringing Texas Tech to ECU and maybe just maybe the ECU AD is leading the program into an abyss! I know all of you will say, I am nuts BUT you will agree by Dec.2012 when ECU is searching for another coach and hopefully a decent AD!

I have never understood why ECU fans expect to be something that they are not. ECU is a CUSA school! You are not supposed to beat teams to the like of USC and VT. Maybe they will win one occasionally, but not every game against a BCS opponent! Quit expecting something that your program is not capable of. You need to be happy winning CUSA!!!

Listen here fella. You are expressing disappointment after ECU lost to the # 11 and # 12 teams in the nation by only 19 points and 7 points. Also another thing, South Carolina is more like the # 2 SEC team at this time, and whoever we play in the Liberty Bowl wont be close to as good as South Carolina. Ruffin McNeill was a great hire, and the Texas Tech fans will also tell you that. Another thing, Terry Holland has done wonders for ECU and I stand right behind Terry 100%. Also, this is certainly better than having Dick Baddour-Butch Davis combo and better than having Debbie Yow who brought Maryland downhill big time.

Problem was the VA TEch Defense period. They made abjustments at half time that shut ECU down. Plus ECU Quarterback was out of sink . The AD had nothing to do with this. ECU should be 2-0 right now. Could have been is they had not fumbled so much at S Carolina & Offense had of clicked against Va Tech. ECU has played the 2 toughest teams/ defenses they will face this year. 8-4 or 7-5 is about what ECU can expect. Losses to SC & Va Tech maybe Navy,UNC,Central Florida? If You don't like ECU & are disappointed, then don't go the the games & Support Nc State(Real Loser).

Well the ECU Pirates are 0-2 but that is 0-2 against 2 potential national champions this year. I'd rather be 0-2 than to play some school in the FCS division. To the haters of ECU, try to beat either South Carolina or Virginia Tech, then you could say a few things about our football team. To the ones criticizing Ruffin McNeill, I'll just laugh at you after we end up having a Top 25 finish under him within just a few years. 6-9 does NOT explain what kind of a coach he is, when 2 of the games are against national championship contenders, and when the rest of the games are with the youngest roster in the nation lacking experience. Go Pirates!

I wouldn't be so quick to say that Dave. Va Tech might go undefeated and win the ACC Championship. Same goes with Florida State. Those two don't play each other in the regular season and could both be undefeated going into the ACC Championship game. As for South Carolina, I have them beating LSU in the SEC Championship.

Let me guess, you came to greenville one weekend ran your big mouth(which you have shown you have with your ignorant posts) and then got beat up or something? When do we (pirates) boast about being the best team on the planet? We don't all we simply say is that we can compeat with any team out there, just like we did the past two weeks. The difference between us and the other NC schools when we are off to rough season 100% of our fans still give support to our team. Wolfpack just lost half of their fans this season, and we still got a very big game coming oct 1st where we can somewhat redeem ourselves. Don't worry pirate fans people have a chip on the shoulder with us and there's nothing we can do or say to change what they think, let them post on a ecu article all they want, I actually think its quite funny.

ECU will not win a non-cusa game all year! if ECU played the schedule they did in the 90s they would be 2-10! wake up people this football program is slowly falling into oblivion! 2 yard passes is ECUs offense, no running game an athletic program in chaos! my eyes are wide open now! ECU needs to clean house!
