ACC Passing Numbers Soaring In 2012

MIAMI (AP) -- It's the year of the quarterback in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The ACC is on pace for more touchdown passes and yards through the air than at any time since it went to the current 12-team format in 2004. Just in terms of yards, the league is posting numbers now that are more than 20 percent better than where the ACC's quarterbacks were just two years ago.

There's no shortage of reasons why: Offensive numbers are up in many phases of college football as more teams implement spread packages, and there's plenty of upperclassmen currently under center in the ACC.

Coaches don't seem to mind, and think the pass-happy trend is likely here to stay.
