Hokies Voted ACC's Best In Preseason Media Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Virginia Tech is the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Hokies earned 50 of a possible 98 votes from media members attending the league's two-day preseason media event. Florida State was the runaway choice in the league's Atlantic Division and was second to the Hokies with 26 votes. In addition, Seminoles quarterback Christian Ponder was picked preseason player of the year.

The Hokies were chosen to win the Coastal Division, followed by Miami, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Duke and Virginia.

Following the Seminoles in the Atlantic were Clemson, Boston College, North Carolina State, Wake Forest and Maryland.

I am guessing the ACC championship will come down to the sunshine state rivalry, Florida State and Miami. Bud you might as well add Wake forest to that list that has the triangle teams as well. I would even say that the Mountain West and the Big East are better conferences in football than the ACC.

OUCH!!! That must really sting all the Triangle area U's. UNC is picked to squeak out a meager 4th place in the Coastal just ahead of the juggernaut powerhouse DOOK, who according to deadfish had such a great recruiting class will be a Top 5 ranked team in a year or two. And NCSteak, I thought they hired one of the best coaches in the game from Boston College but yet again they're predicted to bring up the rear in the conference? How does that work? Talk about depressing! ECU coaches may leave for better paying jobs, but at least we don't hire coaches and then run their career in the ground. The ACC is the C-USA of the BCS, full of underperforming teams with one consistent winner at the top: Virginia Tech and East Carolina. Fitting that they play each other.
