NC State Hires Maryland's Yow As Athletic Director

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina State has given Maryland's Debbie Yow a five-year contract to serve as its new athletic director.

The school's board of trustees approved a contract for Yow on Friday morning. The deal has a base salary of $350,000, though there is a possible $100,000 per year in supplemental compensation from the school's marketing agreement as well as incentives for team performance and academics.

Yow replaces Lee Fowler, who resigned in May and ends a 10-year tenure with the Wolfpack next week.

Fowler's contract was to expire in 2013 and paid him $280,000 in annual base salary.

Yow is the first woman to serve as A.D. at N.C. State and the sister of Kay Yow, the Wolfpack's Hall of Fame women's basketball coach who died last year.

NCSU did this because their motto should be: "NC State, doing less, with more, for over 25 years and counting".
