3 Ex-Duke Football Players Plead To Gun Charges

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Three Georgia men kicked off Duke University's football team won't return to school after pleading guilty to firearms charges.

Multiple media outlets reported the three freshmen from Georgia will serve a year's probation, perform community service and pay a $500 fine plus court costs. They pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of possessing a weapon on educational property and carrying a concealed weapon.

John Drew and Kyle Griswould of Midland, Ga.; and Brandon Putnam of Peachtree City, Ga., were dismissed from the football team after their arrest in January.

They were charged after guns were fired in the air near a residence hall on the Duke campus. No one was hurt and a pistol was recovered.
