Tar Heels' Davis Declares For NBA Draft

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina forward Ed Davis is skipping his final two seasons of eligibility to enter the NBA draft.

The 6-foot-10 forward was the team's second-leading scorer. He was also the Tar Heels' top rebounder and shot blocker before missing the last 13 games with a broken left wrist sustained against Duke in February.

In a statement from the school, Davis said he is pursuing a "lifelong dream of playing in the NBA" and that he would continue to work toward his degree.

Davis averaged 13.4 points and 9.6 rebounds this year and was a key reserve as a freshman in North Carolina's run to the 2009 national championship. He had 11 points and eight rebounds in 14 minutes against Michigan State in that title game.

leaving early to play in europe?? he's not even close to being ready for the nba. defensively he could contribute in time if he gains some weight. offensively he's hopeless. the previously mentioned brandon wright was 10 times better offensively and DISAPPEARED in the nba. ed will get drafted and then win golden splinter after golden splinter. i wish him the best, i really do. but if i was an nba gm i would pass on him.

Well, he had two options....stay and work on his game a little more (which I think he possibly needed) or leave and not run the risk of suffering another injury that could be career-ending next time. I just see all the guys who have left early, such as Brandon Wright and Marvin Williams, and I think they could be doing a lot better in the NBA if they would have stayed in college to further develop their skills. In any case, I wish the best of luck to Ed Davis.
