New York - No. 4 seed North Carolina (20-16) will take on No. 3 seed Dayton (24-12) in the finals of the NIT Thursday night at 7pm. Dayton knocked off Ole Miss, 68-63, in the first semifinal on Tuesday while the Tar Heels beat Rhode Island in overtime, 68-67.
North Carolina is 13-4 in the NIT and is making its second appearance in the NIT title game and the first since 1971. Carolina is 28-9 all-time in Madison Square Garden. Dayton has won two NIT titles in 22 appearances and has a 39-20 NIT record, including 25-11 at Madison Square Garden.
