College of Charleston Stuns No. 9 North Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Andrew Goudelock's long 3-pointer tied the game with 2 seconds left in regulation, Donavan Monroe gave College of Charleston the lead for good with a 3 to start overtime and the Cougars beat No. 9 North Carolina 82-79 on Monday night.

The Tar Heels (11-4) had trailed most of the game, but used a late run to take a 72-61 lead with 4 minutes to go. That's when Goudelock and the Cougars (8-6) got going.

Goudelock scored the last 8 points in regulation, including the fadeaway 3 from about 28 feet with 6-foot-10 Ed Davis in his face to make it 73-all.

Monroe hit the go-ahead 3-pointer and his two free throws with 18 seconds left provided the final margin.

Charleston beat a ranked opponent for the first time since defeating the third-ranked Tar Heels 66-64 on Dec. 5, 1998.

Goudelock scored 24 points, while Davis had 18 points and 16 rebounds.

I'm an avid Carolina fan, but I would be the first to say that I knew they would have a rough season this year. They don't have a competent point guard to replace Ty Lawson, and the "big" men need a little more meat on their bones. Yet, it amazes me how fans of other teams love to rub every UNC loss in the face of the fans clad in light blue. I loathe Duke, but I did not say a word to any of my friends who root for the Blue Devils when they lost to Wisconsin during the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. This morning my facebook page was loaded with comments from friends ridiculing the Heels. Just goes to show who has more class. It may not be this year, but Carolina will be back on top.

I guess winning a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP is good enough for me. :)

You don't always win them all in the first place. However, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, Maryland, Florida St., Ga. Tech, Clemson sometimes aren't so hot stuff either. Oops left out Virginia and I'm not a born NC tarheel fan..so go on to the next game and when Carolina rears their head and heels up again don't come crying to me that you got beat!

Mcdonald's All-Americans really dont mean anything. That crap is full of politics! Most of the best players didnt come from that pull anyway. UNC is the team everyone wants to beat because they are at the best college in the US.

Oh how AWESOME! My New Year has started out with a bang! Love to see The People's Republic of North Carolina loose at anything! I wonder if the school has grief counselors paid by tax payers of NC available for all the crying UNC babies? I wouldn't sound so bitter if I did not know several UNC alumni and thier commie liberal ideology. I'd love to see Roy bring them down again to Kinston and get beat by the local private school they played a year or two ago.
