CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- By kickoff Saturday afternoon, No. 12 Miami will likely know if it remains in the Atlantic Coast Conference race.
Duke hosts Georgia Tech at noon Saturday. If Tech wins, it captures the ACC Coastal Division title and eliminates Miami, which faces the Tar Heels a few miles away at 3:30 p.m. (EDT).
All that is irrelevant, Miami coach Randy Shannon insists. He's telling his team (7-2, 4-2) that regardless of the ACC race, its focus should be entirely on doing something the Hurricanes have never done -- win at Chapel Hill. Miami has lost all three of its trips to North Carolina, falling in 1963, 2004 and 2007, plus falling at home to the Tar Heels last year in a game that significantly hurt the 'Canes in the ACC race.
